Collection: Bile Duct Cancer
What is Bile Duct Cancer?
Bile duct cancer, also known as cholangiocarcinoma, is a rare but aggressive form of cancer that develops in the bile ducts tubes that carry bile from the liver and gallbladder to the small intestine. Symptoms may include jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), abdominal pain, dark urine, pale stools, unexplained weight loss, and fatigue.
The exact cause of bile duct cancer is not always known, but risk factors include chronic inflammation of the bile ducts, liver disease, bile duct stones, certain parasitic infections, and exposure to toxins. Early detection is crucial, as the disease often progresses silently until it reaches an advanced stage.
